i am such a donught i posted this in scrap chat .....silly me ...so i have moved it too general chit chat

i was listening to the talk back radio and they were discussing people that do odd things in your town ...you know the characters that you see in the same spot doing the same thing time ad time again ......and they become iconic in your community and everybody knows them by there nick name ....it was really really interesting ......

so it got me thinking about my characters .....

When i was in charters towers there were 2 of these iconic characters

one was the "Sherif"......this guy used to go up and down the main street and around the back of shopping centres with a note pad and pencil taking down details of incorrect parking, he would help Nana's walk their trolleys to their cars,(often at the back of the arcade there were Nana's waiting to see if the sheriff was in town), he would get up kids for having bikes on the path ...and he was really big and mentally delayed .....he was harmless, but if he saw kids on the path .....he would follow them and put their tyres down ....he was very good because as soon as the kids seen or heard the sheriff was in town ...they walked with their bikes .....any way the local police give this guy a policeman's shirt , an old police hat (both with out the official badges) and sheriff's badges one for his hat and one for his shirt ........And some bloody tourist come to town and complained to the QLD police department because he insisted in pushing her trolley, she started to hit him with her hand bag and screaming at him ....and he was screaming back at her that he was the sheriff ... ....and they had to take the old police gear off him ....it was terrible for the fella ,,,,,he he he ...so now they have give him a park rangers uniform with out badges ......the sheriff chased me one day when we first moved out there because i was crossing the crossing in the street (well there is only one main street that runs for 2 blocks)and i cut off the crossing half way across cause i was rushing to get to the chemist before it closed ....and he chased me, with his note paper yelling at me ....what's you name, what's your name, ....because i had jay walked ...it totally freaked me out ...but i tell ya when the sheriff was in town everybody behaved with better manners and followed the rules of the community

the other one was "Johnny Cool Dude" ....He was an Aboriginal Elvis .....i mean this guy was try blue dinky Di central Australia aboriginal .....but he had pride in looking cool .....on the days that he would come into town ...he always had on some swarve looking suit, polished pointy shoes, that out shone the sun, and a big Elvis wig .....this guy was as skinny as a stick ...and quite tall cause often you would see his socks sticking out (he always had funky coloured socks on) under his pant leg, and the Elvis trade mark sunnies ....white ones, silver ones, red ones, blue ones .....i wonder where did he get them from .......oh and he had no front teeth ....and he would carry a guitar around ....and only play country music .......If people would ask him to play Elvis ....he would say ...hey puck you bud i am johnny cool dude ...i don't play on shit elbis .....god it used to make me smile .....my favourite suit was his purple suit with cream pin stripes ....i told him one day that was my most favourite of his suits ....i said he looked like cadbury chocolate ...so delicious ....he laughed and laughed ....telling everybody hey this white woman she be gunna eat me cause i be look like em choc O larts ....and every time he would see me ....he would say hey choc O lart migloo (migloo means white person )and give me the biggest blackest smile you can imagine ....but he made everybody smile....with his no teeth and biggest wig ...it was a sight to be seen .....but one day he just disappered....he was on day release from the mens mental home ....and talk has it that he went off his medications ...so he wasn't allowed out and then got transferred.

so did you have anybody like this in your towns? growing up or even now?
