I dont know about you but I am sick of thinking up of new ideas for dinner and sick of the same old same old.

So what are YOU having for dinner tonight?

I have had Spag Bol quietly cooking away since lunch time, I love it when I slow cook it over a few hours

Quick and simple sausage casserole with mash tonight. It's a great way to get a heap of vegies into the kiddos :D
I don't eat sausage meat though so I had a zucchini frittata with roasted tomatoes on the side - Yummo.

Thinking I might make up either a lasagne or a cottage pie for dinner tomorrow.... both these also great ways to boost the vegie levels lol.

hanging out for a roast!!! Need to see when Alice is coming for a visit and do one then, bit pointless just for two

Stuffed capsicums tonight, stuffed with tomatoes lentils and and rice, cooked slowly in the oven. can also be done in the slow cooker, I wasn't up early enough today to do this- have a shocking cold and I have to work tomorrow........

Lamb's fry tomorrow. I know most of you will be saying yuk, however we all love it and always have some for my neighbour who loves it too and its a great source of iron. Not good for those with high cholestrol though.

Sunday whatever Geoff makes, he's a great cook and comes up with some amazing dinners plus he always makes a different soup every Sunday.....

Over spag bol at the minute. I might make Chicken and spinach lasagne as that is just yummy and a nice change.

totally agree about getting stuck in a rut

I also hate feeling like we are eating the same old kinds of things on a rotational basis. Daryl and I haven't been feeling too well today and we put it down to being the meat we had for dinner last night. Roasted some chops I had bought from the supermarket the day before and they obviously didn't agree with either of us. Not good. :(:(

well last night ....we were at a wedding so no cooking :D...but not good for my diet ......drank way to much alcohol and had food that i shouldn't and that was the first bit of dessert i have had in 3 weeks .....so i am not sure how my scales are going to look at me tomorrow .....but in my head ...i am saying ...on special occasions i can have a small indulge.....but i think(((i actually know!!!!))) i blew out on alcohol consumption :p

but the night before i had one of my slow cooker beef recipes ...the kids had veggies and mash spuds ...but because i am not eating potato ....i took my serve of cauliflower ...blended it up with bit of cheese....this my claytons mash.

But i did my favourite ...brussel sprouts ....i do them in a little sesame seed oil, fried with a little chopped bacon, garlic, a small dash of cream and 2 sprigs of rosemary .......with a little cracked black pepper sprinkled over them ....

((i just ate the left overs for my breaky:D)))

I seriously need to loose weight myself Sammi. Off to the DR's Tuesday for a check up.... think my bloody pressure is off the scale and would be interesting to see how the rest of me is falling part with all this excessive weight.
But cos we are on holidays next week I think it would be pointless to be strict while i am away. i will watch what i eat and try make better food choices but hey its nearly been 5 years since Ive had a holiday so i am going to enjoy it.
The exercise bike went back Friday.... bit off more than i could chew there BUT I did exchange it for a treadmill.... I figure I need to start of slow and get my fitness up again and get this celulite moving too

phatassphairy
25-07-2009, 10:56 PM
hell yeah Lorrie ....you have to enjoy your holidays ....and nothing like a relax and a good feed to make it feel everlasting ...lol.....so go for it and enjoy some warmer weather :D

*Anthea03*
26-07-2009, 12:45 AM
go girls!! you can do it.

I saw my Dr a few months ago and she brought up the dredded weight problem..... anyway I head out the the base here once a week with a group of defence wives and a trainer from the base comes over and gives us an hour session, man it hurts the next day!
I am also going to start going to the gym on the base too next week. I havent said anything online cause of fear I would go off track but I have lost 5 kilos in the past couple of months.....
I would love to go to my 10 year reunion (end of sept) and feel good about how I look as I had weight issues all of my life

tonight is baked veg and steak

Sammi and Anthea well done on your weight losses. Keep up the great work.

Lorrie enjoy your holiday and then when you get back you will be able to get in the mind set to take up an exercise routine on your treadmill. I could do with a treadmill to use but don't have anywhere to be able to put one. :(

Dinner tonight is Daryl's goulash. It is a spaghetti bolognese type dish. Daryl doesn't much like cooking and avoids it at all costs but lately have gotten him cooking the Sunday night meals.

Dinner sounded very tasty Lorrie. Have you been using your slow cooker much? I have a larger sized slow cooker and looking to buy a 3.5 litre one. Love my slow cooker for cooking things like a chicken, lamb shanks, corned beef and just thinking about trying lasagna.

*Anthea03*
26-07-2009, 09:24 PM
I love my slow cooker too, but since I got a crock pot I have been using it a lot more, like atleast once a week.

not sure about tonight though, School goes back today (YAY) so that means cooking something for afternoon tea too as SHane finished off the choc chip cookies I made yesterday.....

We had Ry's favourite for dinner tonight .... dinosaur wings.
They're turkey wings, and if you've seen them in the supermarket they are HUGE!! The first time Ry saw them he dubbed them dinosaur wings and so thats what they're called in our house now. He's bugging me for dinosaur legs now lol - they're turkey drumsticks and they really are HUUUUUGE.

Actually - turkey meat is a big fav in our house, we have it quite often. Also helps that most weeks when I do the grocery shopping there's a huge range thats been marked down to clear .... always less than half price. Love this about woolies - it's very rare that I pay full price for my meat at all.

Another meat that Steven and the kiddos like - and I'm really surprised by this - is Roo meat. I'm not keen on it as I think it really has a 'gamey' after taste, but they enjoy a meal cooked with it.

Julie I can't say that I have ever seen turkey wings for sale at our supermarket. Are they in the fresh or frozen meat section? They always have big frozen turkeys but nothing in the fresh meat section. Our fresh meat section never looks overly enticing. Don't like meat that looks several different shades of colour. We also love kangaroo steak. It cooks up so tender.

there's just something so wrong about eating Skippy..........

Alice came for dinner yesterday so we had roast......

Mac Cheese- home made tonight and Nasi Goring- weight watchers receipe tomorrow.

Left overs for me on Wednesday as I am at school and Thursday and Friday at a conference. Staying will Alice who has promised me her salt and pepper chicken which is just bloody beautiful mmmmmmmm can't wait

Geoff and I plan all our meals, brekky, lunch and dinners and buy accordingly, this was one of the things weight watchers taught me and that way you don't end up having Maccers or KFC cause you haven't planned. Takes a bit of discipline but hey once you do, there's no going back

Dont plan breakfast and lunches - but we do plan the week's dinners - that way we eat better and know what we need at the shops
We do plan in dinners out and take away - thai, etc too

I do plan but sometimes plan go out the window when something pops up. i also tend to make large meals like casseroles, chow mein, spag sauce, lasagne etc so i get 2-3 meals out of the 1 dish... easy to do with only the 2 of us.. and if something does pop up i have it ready and all I have to do is re heat

Shaz - I get all our turkey meat from the normal meat department in the supermarket .... it's usually placed right beside the chicken section. Woolies (or safeway in the southern states) package it up in a heap of different ways .... normal turkey tenderloins, wings, drumsticks, sausages, stirfry strips, mealoaf (which is great for using on school lunches with leftovers) - they've recently added new styles like flavoured rolled roasts, stirfry combinations etc.
I'm thinking that maybe people are still unsure about it and it's not selling as quickly as they'd like hence why it's always marked down each week?? Not sure really ..... just know that every Wednesday morning when I go in to do my shopping there's a whole range of different things marked out to clear so I just buy up a heap and put it all into the freezer. Though to be honest, alot of their meats are marked down to clear ... maybe it's a regular Wednesday morning clear? I know it's been ages since I've paid full price for our meat.

As for planning .... nope not a planner here. I look in the chest freezer each morning and pull out something thats a bit different from the night before. The only time I'd probably plan something ahead of time is if I'm feeling like something in particular like a casserole, stew, lasagne etc just to make sure I've got everything on hand that'll I need.

I envy those who plan meals!! I'm going to have to though, once i'm on maternity leave - we won't be able to afford to eat otherwise!! Now, we just buy heaps every fortnight in our shop, and make what we want from that each night as we feel like it - it's a pretty wasteful way to be, but when you both work, it's a bit hard to do it any other way!!

Looking forward to starting to plan a bit better though, and save on those grocery bills!!

We had carbonara tonight, which was YUM! I like to cook big meals too - even if it's just so DH has something for lunch the next day. It's good if i can freeze enough for us to have it another night though!! Beats cooking every night!!

Julie that is lucky for you that the meat is always marked down. Never seem to have that sort of luck when I shop. Going to have to inquire when I am at the supermarket next if they do have fresh turkey meat. Trouble is we can't but alot of meat and frozens and store them as we only have a very small fridge/freezer and I pack it carefully to try and fit the weeks grocery's in. Would love to have a freezer and be able to buy meat packs or something to always have meat on hand and a little in reserve for variety.

I do semi meal plan. This is always subject to change though as the supermarket doesn't always have the meat or ingredients I need for a particular meal and can often not find it on the shelves for weeks so always having to adjust and tweak my meal plans.

I do sound rather "anal", :o however with Fred and Hashie I can't afford to make a mistake and by planning all meals I am making sure I eat properly and not just on the fly, that way I can keep the little buggers under control.

Anyone who knows some with diabetes let alone Hashie, will know that planning is essential, plus it helps keep the kilos off. Don't buy it, can't eat it.
