I have finally had a chance to make it back online. Has been so long that I had even forgotten my password and had some trouble trying to even remember it to log in.
So much has happened since I have been away. A bit of the good, the bad and the down right ugly. Daryl's job came to an end several months ago now and between him being at home and looking after Kyle I just don't get much online time these days.
Have had lots of trouble with our e-mail provider and them bouncing and deleting our e-mails every month that I have now got a new e-mail address and good to go for being up and running again.
Should be able to try and check in regularly again now. Look forward to catching up and seeing what everyone has been up to.

Lorrie to answer your questions more....
Life has certainly been challenging in more ways than one that is for sure but we are getting by. I just haven't really been able to focus much on scrapbooking of late so haven't had much of an online presence for a while now. I definitely do intend on sticking around alot more. I think I need something different to try and focus on for a while and want to try and get back into scrapbooking and making some cards.
Daryl losing his job couldn't have happened at a worse time really as we had everything organised to buy a house before the end of June and they changed the first home owners grant but of course that all came to a grinding halt. Of course for every negative there is always a positive and it has given Daryl a kick in the pants he desperately needed to finally complete the last remaining paper he has outstanding to complete his degree and grad dip. He also flew to New Zealand in June to sit an accounting exam which he found out at the beginning of the month he passed so that is a positive move forward for him and been a real boost. He is finding it really hard to try and get any interviews. We are waiting to get a formal diagnosis for him for Aspergers. The psychologist has told him that he presents all the classic signs of Aspergers. He has been on the waiting list with Tony Attwood's clinic for a long time for a diagnosis and has finally just got an appointment for the end of August. Being an Aspie he doesn't interview very well as he can't maintain eye contact, his body language isn't any good, he can't answer questions very well and gets all confused trying to answer questions when they ask several questions in a row.. all those sorts of issues so not sure how long it will be before he might be successful trying to find a new job.
Zac had a great time in New Zealand. He would love nothing more than to spend the Christmas holidays in New Zealand this year but just not an option financially for us at the moment. He is rather upset we can't afford the money for his drama fees this term. Zac has just had a months school holidays and only just got back to school to go away on school camp this week.
Was it a lengthy process having your son diagnosed? We are having a really hard time with the hosptial trying to get some help for Kyle. They admit that he has learning difficulties and told me at my appointment last week that I am going to have to carefully pick the school he starts at as it needs to be one that will cater to his needs. However the hospital tells me that Kyles need to be seen by child development (the ones necessary to assess him in all the different areas he is struggling with), OT and a speech therapist but they can't seem to be able to give me the necessary referrals required. Don't even get me started on the dietican who I visited a month ago for my appointment only to be told that she was unable to help me as she didn't have Kyle's medical notes and history with her so we need to make me another appointment in a months time which will be on Friday.

the school picked up on Blaine so they pushed for me to see a peadatrition who saw the tell tale signs immediately as well as ADHD which he is medicated for now and seems to be settling down a little.
We were sent to a psych (which I pay for) and only a few weeks ago was officially diagnosed after a lot of testing but its far from over. Next month we start with the speech pathologist and back to the paed.... now referals to a social group and an OT.... I dont think this will settle until next year some time but i guess thats what needs to be done. Then after all of this, its off to centrelink.... not looking forward to all of there paperwork.
I am going privately which even though its costing me, Im glad because I dont have to wait for those long lists and eventually I should get more back from medibank once i hit the threshold.

Hi Sammi. We sure are having more than our fair share of challenges alright but as they say won't doesn't break a person only helps make you stronger so we will get through this one way or another.

Lorrie that is great that the school was on to things and you are able to take action for Blaine now. It was the school that advised my sister to have my nephew seen to. My sisters oldest son has been diagnosed with both AS and ADHD and he is medicated as well. His father has since been diagnosed and medicated as well. I believe that Daryl is ADHD and would benefit from medication as well but just taking one step at a time at the moment to see what can be done for him. Waiting lists are just so long even when we are paying ourselves for the appointments.
It always amuses me when the different medical people always ask Kyle what his name is and how old he is and Kyle won't answer them. I keep trying to tell them that he won't speak. It doesn't seem to concern them that he might not talk the entire 1 1/2 hours we are at the appointment. They wanted Kyle to draw some shapes last week on a piece of paper again but gave up after 10 minutes when he refused to even hold the pen they were offering him to use. I am quite sure we are going to have some interesting times ahead once he starts school. I have asked the HOD about what assistance I can give Kyle so he is ready to start school and was just told that he simply won't be ready to start school next year. What am I suppose to do with a response like that? I don't want the problem to be ignored. I want to try and get him help and not have him disadvantaged in any way.

Man it just took me over 10 minutes to get this last post to send. Maybe it is a sign that I should just call it quits for the night and head to bed.

Oh I am so glad you are back.
Your whole family seems to be going through a rough time at the moment. No cliche's from me, I am terribly dismayed to hear how slow everything has been for you. I hope this centre Darryl is going to helps him. How frustrating for you, let's hope things begin to improve.

Thanks Ange. Life is certainly one wild roller coaster ride with lots of crazy twists and turns for us and we will all continue to enjoy the ride. I think at this stage and the way things are going it is going to be a matter of making it through 2009 and hoping that 2010 will great off to a great start for us all and be able to be back on track with working towards our goals.
