Have you ever gone shopping to find that your much loved goodie is no longer on the market?
It happens to me all the time....

Wella Balsm Shampoo and conditioner - changed their formula and has a completely different smell to it
Nestle Quick - changed their recipe
Pino clean - shower Spray - no longer on the shelves
colvan chips - disappeared for years and have only just come back on the market
same as Lolly bobble bliss bombs - they made a come back
so did toobs chips but they have gone again

Well today while I was shopping I found a brand that I was so angry when they took it off the market, and i was a excited little kid to find it back today!!
Close up tooth paste is back... woohoo .. I used to love that stuff and yep the red gel is back and also in blue too.....

So it made me think, is there anything else you used to buy that is no longer available or is different now...

A few more for me
- vetta chicken and rice (mum and I used to eat it when I was a kid)
- tab
- moncheros

ummmm, there was these chips back years ago.

they were cylpso (sp) something, think they were made by thins, and you added extra flavour to it with those sachets, mmmmmmm

I miss the old Burger Rings too :(

Found Woolworths has taken ALOT of product off the shelves too.

We use to get this one brand of cheese which for the life of me I can't remember now, but it was the best tasting, lol I love cheese.

This is something that is an annoyance with me as well. We only have the one main supermarket in our suburb to shop from.

There have been so many times when we regularly buy an item each week only to find that suddenly there is a discontinued sign appear on the shelves so that is another product never to be seen again. More often than not there isn't even a close alternative to buy instead.

We used to always buy organic ramen noodles for stir fry and they are no longer stocked. Zac always bought a couple of packets of orange chocolate chip biscuits each week but they were withdrawn and now they only sell chocolate chip and one other flavour. Chicken sausages are always hard to find. I asked the butcher about them and he said that they are always very populr and sell out fast but still they never seem to be able to stock enough. He said that I could buy them individually from the deli if I wanted to. Have been trying to buy some for the last month and there is never any.

As for tweaking recipes I have found manufacturers often like to do this. Sakata crackers had their recipe tweaked. Had to stop buying and eating these as they would make my lips burn after eating them. Mainland cheese is a very popular cheese and is on special frequently but the shelf is always empty the week it is on special. We have all but given up on buying it now though as it is no longer a tasty chesse but more of a cross between a mild cheese taste and a colby type texture. Very disappointing as I was raised on this cheese and we have always bought and eaten quite a bit of this cheese.

I for the life of me cannot think of a single thing that is no longer there :confused:

As for items on shelves its all about whether the manufacturer will pay what the supermarkets want to charge to have their products on the shelves. The more "faces" a product has the higher the costs.

Both woolies and coles announced 18 months ago that the majority of what you will find on their shelves will be You'll love Coles or Select, however most of the ingredients or even the product itself is manufactured overseas so thats how they can make the items cheaper

That being said, there have been two articles. One in New Scientist and the other in the business pages of the Age??? stating that manufacturing will return onshore as the costs in countries like China, India ect are beginning to rise to a level where it will not be feasable for alot of manufacturers to keep producing overseas. Full circle. For the time being, buy fresh and Australian whenever you can afford to do so.

Oh yeah, those flavour satchets were awesome!!!

And i miss the original Milo bars too.

I hate that you can't get the old el paso corn flat bread - it's all flour based now :(

I really love Vanilla Malt Oak milk, and i very often find that there is only 1 or 2 left in the dairy isle, and i can hardly ever get it at my work canteen or anywhere else - is it just really popular and sells out quickly, or do you think they just never order enough in?

oh Shane loves Egg Nog, (pre made from the Dairy Dept) but we have only ever found it at QLD supermarkets.

Are gollywog (sp?) bikkies still around? havent seen those in a while, we loved those as kids

I have also noticed different states sell different things too, there was a time where the Chocolate Rough bikkies werent sold in ACT or VIC so who ever was vitiving us would buy up when ever they came over (the ones you make the chocolate log with oh yum)
