We are headed off to school this morning for our interview to finalise and sign the contract for Zac's subject selections for next year. Should be interesting. The rules will be changing when Zac sits for his OP compared to what they currently are. They are going to be changing the allocation of points for subjects studied and allocating more points to those subjects that are considered harder than others. Need to choose Zac's subjects carefully to be able to try and get him enough points to get an entry to uni as he has his career path all mapped out and plans to head to uni straight from school and then on to Nida.

Thanks. The unit weren't very happy with me when they had selected for Zac to study catering and I said that I didn't think that was a suitable subject for him and neither would woodwork. Thankfully we were able to reach a compromise and now he will be continuing to study the same subjects he has already been studying. He did get excited when it was mentioned that he will be able to drop maths as that is the subject that he is not good at and has always dreaded. However he will be staying with maths and switching over to pre-vocational maths.

After talking with the unit at the school and thinking we would be enrolling Kyle to start prep there next year we were advised against it and told to consider looking at a Montessori school. There is 1 school that offers Montessori school as part of the state school so guess I will be ringing them tomorrow to have a chat. Time is running out and my options seem to get less and less as time goes by. May be looking like he won't be starting prep next year.

I am interested to find out more about their style of schooling Sammi. I know that we have challenges ahead for Kyle and this might suit his style of learning for next year dependent on cost of course.

The learning at your own level might be exactly what we may need to look at for Kyle for next year as we have been told several times now that he may not be ready for main streamed schooling for next year. Open to any and all suggestions at this stage.

your education system is so different to us in Vic. Our kids cant go to school unless they are 5 by April and now are recommended to start prep at 6. Blaine is in grade 1 (level 2 i think for you) and he is 6. He is the youngest in his class. 99% of his class mates are already 7 and he doesnt turn 7 until next year. I had the same recommendations saying he wasnt ready but I tell you sending him was the best decision I made. The only thing they kept telling me was that he was over sensitive.... he has been like that since the day he was born and now he is diagnosed it all makes sense. Do what you feel in your heart is right and dont do what I did and get so upset and confussed with peoples comments and opinions. Thats all i can say from 1 mum to another.

Thanks Lorrie. If it is ok I will e-mail you with a couple of questions. So many thinks to consider. I have finally received an appointment from CDC for an appointment for Kyle in September so I am interested to see what if anything that they have to say to me after observing Kyle in action.
