Just wondering what kind of MP3 player you might all recommend buying?
Zac would like an MP3 player to take with him each day to school as he travels to and fro on the bus. He used to take his PSP until someone at school smashed his screen and then he always had his mobile phone loaded with all his favourite songs but sadly that has come to the end of its useful life and he doesn't have one at all now. Zac has his birthday coming up in October and thinking about buying him some sort of MP3 player so would appreciate any advice anyone may have to offer.

I must say I think you can't go past an Ipod. Be it a shuffle, nano or the classic.
Mainly because of all the accessories out there that you can get for them.
Also my kids download movies to theirs and then play them through the laptop.

I use an Ipod also, Shane got it for me when he was in The Gulf and it was one of the best things ever! now we are on the look out for a system for the car so we can plug it in instead of burning CDs

Zac would love anything in the apple range including an iphone and ipod touch. Can't justify that for taking to school as Zac always seems to be something of a target at school and have his things broken by the bullies. Have had too many things stolen and broken so don't want to risk spending too much for it to be stolen or broken.

Shaz - the little Ipod shuffles would work well then. Retail for about $60, not overly flash like the other Ipod models - they store a heap of music and are pretty easy to use and I wouldn't think something someone would go out of their way to steal considering the other style of Ipods are a heap flashier and way more expensive.

Julie if you have a shuttle you can't select the songs that play can you? I see the latest shuttles are $129.00 and are 4GB and hold up to 1000 songs.

No thats true the shuffles you cant select the songs. How old is your boy? Cause would he really need one that holds 1000 songs or could he go with a smaller one until hes older. Try ebay they might have the older ones on there which are smaller in gig and cheaper.

Zac will be 16 in October. He is always downloading new songs and videos to add to his PSP and his 4GB and 8GB cards are always full to the max and he is having to delete things to add new things all the time.
I am thinking that I might add a shuttle to my birthday or Christmas wish list. I don't need anything too fancy or too big to carry around.

Nah, you can't choose a song in particular to play - there is a switch you can set it to though so that it can play them in the order they're uploaded on or in the random 'shuffle' order ..... makes it interesting as you'll never know what pops up next.
You should still be able to get the smaller GB shuffle in Big W - I broke my old one a couple months back and decided to stay with the smaller memory one as try as hard as I can, I can't seem to fill the one gig let alone a bigger one.

There was a dick smith catologue in the paper today. they have little 1 gig shuffles for $59.
The shuffle doesn't have a screen so it would be no good for videos

We were talking about the shuffle last night and both Daryl and Zac said no to that idea. They both said it would be better to get the classic and have 120GB. Might just give that a miss for the time being me thinks.
Thanks for your help everyone. :)

How old is Zac? apple released there new ipod nano which is the nano-chromatic.
Give your iPod nano a shake and it shuffles to another song in your library —
thanks to the built-in accelerometer. And you can turn it sideways to view your
albums in Cover Flow.
The new Genius feature turns iPod nano into your own highly intelligent,
personal DJ. It creates playlists by finding songs in your library that go great
together.
For those about to rock, apple give you nine amazing colors. But that’s only
part of the story. Feel the curved, all-aluminum and glass design and you won’t
want to put iPod nano down.
