I have decided to buy myself a good set of pots and a great pan but what to buy? Im tired of the pot handles coming loose and the pan discolouring and looking like it came from WW1... so any recommendations...

I am sooooo not a clued in person when it comes to things like this .... lol, I keep a philips head screwdriver in the top kitchen door for those 'loose handle' moments ..... I think I got my set of pots from like K Mart or Big W or some such years and years ago.
But, I have heard of Baccarat before and that they are pretty good - bit exy though aren't they?? guess it would be a reflection of their quality. I'm actually going about replacing my pots/pans the loooong way - one at a time lol. Just bought a new frypan couple weeks back - can't remember if it's a certain brand :o - but it was all stainless steel so I can take it from stove top and put in the oven for fritattas and such.

Lorrie,

Harris Scarfe have the best sales on suacepan sets and ther catologue is in the herald sun each Wednesday or it might be Tuesday. Or look on line.

I would love a set of Stanley Rogers pans.....I have the frypan and a big roasting dish and they are great. Got them from harris scarfe.

I have a catolgue at home and I remember seeing a set in there, I think they were bacarat. Kicking myself that I didn't buy the Stanley rogers set last year they were $99.00. The ones on sale now are $199 I think.

i have the stanley & rogers giant roasting pan also, again from Mum :)

yes they are quite exxy, which is why i am lucky to have such an ace mum to get these things for me!

i think (and dont hold me to it) that if each piece is solid/heavy, chances are its quite good, and will last?

let us know how you go....
and what time we should come for dinner so you can try out your new cookware!

Lorrie,

When your next at fountain gate, go into house and the general trader and sus them out on what they recommend just to get ideas and ask around.

But Harris scarfe seems to be the place to buy them at. Just watch out for the sales

we brought some pans from the local show once, worst investment ever. paid close to $2500 for them and you need to scrub the living daylights out of them to get them clean (suppose to be non-stick) and we never use them. Always pull out the old trusty's that we brought from Big W when we moved in together.

I know exactly the kind of pans you mean. We watched a demo at Ekka one time for pans and what a hard sale they tried to do to convince you to buy them. They make it appear so convincing to buy them with the set and forget type cooking. We did buy there knife set for $20.00 and they didn't last long so glad that we hadn't invested in the pan set.

We have a pots and pans set that we bought from Mitre 10. They are a great set and retain the heat really well for cooking at a constant temperature.

We went to a cooking demonstration recently with the two authors of the popular book series Four Ingredients. They announced that they will be releasing their own line of affordable cookware soon. Will be interesting to see what they come out with.

Sometimes it pays to invest a little extra and buy quality items that are going to last the distance. Quality wise like anything you will get what you pay for. I would love to know what kind of oven trays and roasting pans everyone uses and that is something that we need to buy.
