View Full Version : When scrapping goes wrong!!

I sat here tonight and just made myself scrap. I'm not sure why I did it - was thinking that I really hadn't done that much this week at all so I better get something done just for the sake of it ..........big mistake!! I'm tired and should of gone to bed early, I had no idea no basis for a layout - just took the pic and scrapped it ....... now I can say I took a pic and wrecked it lol.

Even Steven said it was pretty bad lol. And normally he just stays neutral if he can. I just feel like I've wasted a night when I could of done something a bit more productive .......... like sleep.

So have you ever had a layout go bad?? Ever felt like you wasted your time??
Were you able to pull it back all together to look 'right'??

ps - there ain't no fixing this one:rolleyes:

Julie I DO NOT believe that you could ever 'WRECK' a layout!! I had a terrible one just the other day - this one was for the BOM Challenge no 4, what the heck was I thinking, sadly enough I went as far as uploading it in the gallery  . Didn't take me long to pull it down, I was so so embarrased :o. This layout has got me beat though, I am redoing it as we speak and it just will not come together, but I am determined to make IT a masterpiece, lol!!! :D

thats my scrap history, especially lately. i have no drive to scrap. I have crop 4 kids on the wekeend and not even excited about it,. I really need to put a cracker under me and get into it again. I have tried to force myself to scrap and have hated everything ive done.

Ah Julie you are mortal after all. It is good to hear that such a talented scrapbooker like you has off days too like the rest of us:-).

That feeling of wasting time & product suxs. I hope tonight you get your Mojo back.

My worst ever L.O was at a crop day. If you saw it you would have thought an 8 year old did it. It was truly appalling. The worst thing about it was that other people saw it because I was at a crop. When I got home it found its way into the bin. On that day I was so not in the mood to scrap but because I had already paid I made myself go.

I think it happens to all of us Jules...lately I think all my layouts need to 'find their way to the bin' as Lyndall put it :o. I also have't been in the 'mood' to scrap lately...been so busy with work/school/family that by the time the 'scrapbooking time' comes around i'm either sleeping or doing homework ...oh well...holidays after next week :D:D:D Hopefully i'll have some time then cause all my assignments will be done :D

oh dear, my last 'wrecked' LO was for one of the scrapjacks, I havent attempted one since, and the LO is long gone in the bin!:D

Oh it's well and truly wrecked, crappola, shite .... whichever world you like lol - will try and get time after work today and take a pic to share here in the thread ....just here though, no way it's going in my gallery

LOL Lyndall - yep am well and truly mortal - believe me I've had my fair share of cursing and gritting teeth when it comes to this hobby ..... I'm sure I read somewhere that it's supposed to be relaxing :D
I love my hobby - I just have to learn that I don't HAVE to scrap, I can let a couple of days go by without doing anything. I'm not gonna bin last nights mess - am gonna keep it where I can see it so I remember what happens when I 'make' myself scrap for the sake of it.

oooh..... just thought of something .......... maybe we can make it into a game when I upload the pic here ........you know, kinda like spot the faults. Maybe if we disect where I went wrong it might make it easier to put together better layouts.

Will get a pic up tonight sometime.

I am sure we all have more than one LO that we cringe at when we look at it l know that l do ......some of my early stuff when l went to Creative Memories parties make me what to run and hide ..........l don't force myself anymore l just go with the flow ......

I find it hard to believe anything you could produce would be bad Julie...lol I bet you're worst is still better than anything I could come up with.

Jax, I have a similar first layout experience with Creative Memories. I was so excited at being introduced to scrapbooking that I actully deluded myself into thinking it looked good. Now that layout is carefully hidden in the album I don't look at much.

I would be having bad days if I was scrapping Julie, but I haven't done anything for about a month now. :(

Would like to have a little lookie at what went wrong:)

Okie, will go ahead and share the layout :o

Here it is...............

http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f213/madanic/meeting-a-kinderoo.jpg

I know the first step I went wrong with is the white striped index card background -it's way too stark for the neutral colours of the patterned paper. The next step I went wrong with was trying to cover up said stark index cards with some distress ink wash........mind you I did this once the layout was finished so could only reach certain areas which made it look silly.

The next wrong thing I did was to put the title WAY too close to Rylans face - I should of left more open area near his face as that is what usually engages attention to a layout - now you kinda see his body then jump straight to the title ..... looks like a no head boy lol.

One other thing I didn't like is the journalling under the photo - I normally sit my journalling off to the side somewhere - this just left an open gap under the pic which makes it look like it's floating/ not grounded to the layout. Just made it feel all 'top heavy' which is not normal to me.

I know it all sounds pretty technical - but scrapping is to me sometimes. There are my own rules I like to follow and keep to - sometimes I try to break out of it a bit - but once I went wrong with the first step - choosing the index cards and sticking them down - it was allllllll down hill from there.

So there you go .......one TOTALLY DODGE LAYOUT!!! And a little OVER ANALYSING ;):D
Don't like it, won't be convinced to like it..... will NOT be sharing it anywhere else but here. But I will most likely re-scrap this photo as I really do like it.

Jules..i don't think it's THAT bad! I also don't like the 'white bits' and also the red it perhaps a bit too RED IYKWIM?
But nowhere near as bad as i was picturing in my head as a bad layout..lol i think your idea of bad is VERY different from mine :p

Julie I know I won't be able to convince you but this layout is fantastic, if this is your worst than my work must be pretty shocking!! Whilst I agree with you that the title (only the 'meeting' part) is to close to Rylans face, cause the photo is already 'cut of' non of the other above apply. The index card sets it all off agains the busy background and I love the distressed look on it, journaling underneath photo is great. Just move the 'meeting' a bit higher and you have another perfect layout!!!!

I actually quite like it Julie.

Jules, i do agree with the title being a bit close and my eyes go straight to the red in the trees instead of to the photo , but l really do like it aswell .

Julie you are an inspration (spl?) to me and l too am very critical of my own work . l did a layout at Crop for kids and l haven't put it in the gallery cause l am not happy with it .
Sometimes it just doesn't work out how we hoped or planned ..........:(

Ta guys. The letter stickers can't be moved - once I stuck them down I traced round the outside of them with a black marker to make them pop out a bit more.

I do like the pic though - so will be re-scrapping it at some point. The trees I liked - just the colours are a little too bright for the more neutral tones of the background.

Jax - thanks for your lovely words. Goodluck with your layout - can you add things to it still so that it might finish it off a bit??
Sometimes my work starts off a bit 'blah' but I'll usually add a few more elements and tie it back in to together - just didn't happen with this one unfortunatly. Thanks for the constructive feedback though ladies.

I do like your page Jules, although I do agree with you. the index card is a little stark and part of the title does distract from the photo.

Other than that, wish I could have a mistake that good.:)

I am working on a sample layout for the page maps comp and everytime i touch it i think i kill it that little bit more.... I have vision but thats not being transfered to the page....... Julie

Its the trees. They look like they don't belong but everything else is perfect. OMG if you were to see one on my mistakes (my opinion) you would look at yours and then say mmmmmmmmmmmmmm maybe its not so bad after all.

My worst layout which I pulled apart was a puzzle page, before Fleur taught me how to sand. God it looked bloody awful.

Now I bet the girls who are in my puzzle swap are sweating!!!:D:D:D:eek:

Actually remember it was BEFORE Fleur taught me how to sand. Now I'm the sanding Queen.
