I have perthes disease Hetty in my hip and now waiting on a hip replacement (hopefully soon). I was diagnosed around the age of 10 and have had hip to ankle casts, metal braces, traction, operations, the lot... all going through pubity... not fun at all.
Funny thing is this is a 'boys disease' last time I checked the only dangly bits i had were on my chest :eek: . Boys are usually diagnosed from birth to 4.....ummm ??? teenager ???
And they say its not hereditery... I have 2 uncles that have it... Yeap so I am unique... I have broken bits floating around and find it very difficult now to get from A to B. So it's time...A new ceramic hip on order for this little black duck! Spakka definetely :D (spastic for Hetty terms! Sorry if I have offended).

So there you go, a little bit of trivia about me... sorry to bore you all;)

So sorry to hear that Lorrie and you most certainly should not refer to yourself as a spastic. This is something beyond your control and I am sure not very nice to live with and I am keeping my fingers crossed for you that you get to have your op soon. You are definately not boring us with this information, I am glad you shared and we got to know you a little better. Two thumbs up for you Lorrie, you are a very brave woman and Blaine is a very lucky boy to have you as his mummy. Sorry not trying to suck up but I think being a single mum must be hard enough without things like this added to it, so here is to you Lorrie, I am in awe of you, well done!!!!
P.s My mum is in need of a double knee replacement and finds it hard to get around so I kind of know what it must be like.

I have lived with all my life and have never known anything different so I don't class my self as any different. I do try to make light of the situation (ie: spakka) however I am now getting very concious on how I look and the way I walk. I've done very well to get where I am but its now time.
All I want out of this is to be able to walk without coaxing myself to do it, put my own shoe on and hopefully become mobile again so I can drop a bit of this weight. My friends give me heaps of flack and have been nagging me for years to get something done so now its time and all for Blaine. I can't have a 5 year old pushing me in a wheel chair can I?
I don't pitty myself nor do I want pitty, life is life... you just deal with it!!

Well I am from Dutch origin. Getting a name is a little different from here. It is called christening name but you don't necessarily have to be christened - I know doesn't make any sense at all. Anyway I was named after my Grandmother who was called Gerritje hence the Gerarda and my grandad who was called Hendrik hence the Hendrika. These names are on my birth certificate and passport but that is all. In normal life I go by the name of Hetty, does make things a little complicated sometimes though!!! :D

I used to be a Tupperware Lady (and spent all my profits on product, hence my ridiculous pantry!)

My WHOLE family calls me Bub (my nieces & nephews call me Bubbub... when my oldest niece was born she got Bub... and I graduated to Bubbub... they also call their Great Grandmother Granny Granny)... I also hated my name when I was a kid... mainly because the only time they ever called me by my proper name was when I was in BIG trouble and it was through gritted teeth!!! LOL

My two brothers were married to two sisters (one couple are now divorced... and yes family get togethers are painful!)

I have moved 16 times in the past 18 years

I married my childhood sweetheart (he was also the boy next door)... still together 20 years later & my mum ALWAYS says "you'd get less for murder" hehehe

I went to an all girls school (and it turns out the same one as poppysmum and I didn't know until she recognised me after meeting at our LSS and we had been chatting online for a few months beforehand)

Lorrie OMFG!!! My DS was diagnosed with Perthes when he was 4!!!! THANKFULLY they got it wrong and he had apparently only bruised the ball and socket when he jumped off a bunk bed... even thinking we had to go through what you have been was enough to scare the crap outta me... he spent a week in Braxton Boots (is that right? like traction but just with foam boots holding his legs)... can you imagine a 4 year old lying still in those things for a week?... well I suppose you can!!! but it sent me MENTAL!... I always thought you were unique but now I know you are a legend!

i didnt have a natural birth, had an emergency forcepts seizer (sp???) but i loved my labour.... Hated been pregnant though..... but there is a story behind it!!
